Although the following agenda represents a general structure for the interview, the sub-topics and their order only function as a general guide, rather than a prescribed format. Additionally, while the topics listed here represent the broad areas of interest for comparability, there is scope for tailoring the discussion to the individual. For instance, whether the participants are currently in receipt of care, or if they are speaking prospectively, will affect how discussion points are introduced and discussed. IntroductionWhat are your preferences for care in the future? (~10 minutes)o Who should provide care? (family/third party/national citizen) o Where should it be provided? o What makes a good carer (e.g. personal qualities and training)? o Which is the most important of these 3 factors? o Do preferences change with life-stage/needs/age, etc.? Have plans been made for your care in the future? (~5 minutes)o Financial planning and quality of care- is there a need for compromise o Third party/institution o Anything you do not want? (e.g. type of care, location, care giver) What are your views about immigrant care workers in the older adult health and community care sector? (~10 minutes)o Do you think there any differences between Canadian care workers and care workers who are not from Canada? • Personal qualities • Skills and training • Language proficiency • Family concerns and preferences • Quality of care How should these key issues be tackled and a more effective caring relationship developed?
