Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health Print E-mail

ForumBanner_webThe Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health (the Forum) is being convened by the Global Health Workforce Alliance, the Prince Mahidol Award Conference, the World Health Organization and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, supported by many other agencies, especially the Rockefeller Foundation, the China Medical Board and the World Bank.

The Forum will build upon the successes achieved in Kampala and will provide a platform to review progress made in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the Kampala Declaration and the Agenda for Global Action. It will be an opportunity to further galvanize and accelerate the global movement on HRH towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.

A further category of awards will be made for HRH case studies that demonstrate success in addressing health workforce issues.

The Awards for Excellence will be given to case stories (preferably but not limited to those that commenced after February 2008), that demonstrate success in addressing health workforce issues based on one or more strategies of the Agenda for Global Action.

“Health Worker Migration in Canada: Histories, Geographies, Ethics” Print E-mail

philcanflagsThis one-day academic-policy workshop, “Health Worker Migration in Canada: Histories, Geographies and Ethics” aims to bring together graduate students, faculty, and policymakers from British Columbia and beyond to discuss the issue of health worker migration affecting Canada and the world. The day will be composed of a graduate workshop in the morning, followed by a policy roundtable in the afternoon and culminating with a keynote speech by Dr. Catherine Ceniza Choy from the University of California, Berkeley, author of the acclaimed book “Empire of Care: Nursing and Migration in Filipino American History” (Duke University Press & Ateneo de Manila University Press 2003).

The purpose of this conference was to bring together health policy researchers and decision-makers who have an interest in the migration of health professionals from either a destination country (e.g., Canada, U.S., & U.K.) or a source country (e.g., South Africa, the Philippines, India, the Caribbean & Poland) perspective to develop an explicitly comparative and context sensitive program of research.
